  1. Got A Dvd from a friend and when I use Power DVD or Clone DVD to check it gives an error on VIDEO_TS.IFO and also Clone DVD reports missing VTS_01_0.IFO and VTS_02_0.IFO. I tried opening the ifo using IFOedit, but don't know of any way to fix it . I was wandering if there is a way to regenerate these files so I would be able to burn the DVD to play on my DVD player. thnx..

  3. Actually, there is a way to add ifo files, DVDFAB will generate them. I have an old freeware version, 0.17 I think, that has an option to do this on the opening screen. I once salvaged a movie from a damaged disk by pulling the vob files and using DVDFAB to rebuild the ifo files. Nyah Levi

go to http://www.ifoedit.com/ and read the guides, ifo edit will create new ifo files from vob files.

  5. This should work:

Delete all ifo and bup files except the VTS_01_0.VOB, VTS_01_1.VOB and so on, and also keep VTS_01_0.IFO, then open the folder in the freeware version of DVDFab. Click "Create Video Manager", then "Continue". If it doesn't give you an error message, you're good, new ifos and bups will be created, including the VIDEO_TS.IFO.

This will also work if you delete a title set and its associated navigation files, such as extra junk. But you may have to rename your vobs starting with VTS_01, etc.; if the numbers begin with, for example, VTS_02, etc., you'll error out. Sometimes extras are listed first, so be aware.

    Good luck, hope it helps.

{EDIT} Oopsy, nelson beat me to it.

  8. bazooka, canadateck - kalkama says he was given a DVD. If he wishes to convert/fix it to to watch on a certain player, there isn't a problem. If he was borrowing the DVD then it would be a problem but since he owns the original then it is fair use. Further to that, were any titles mentioned? It could be a homemade or public domain movie.

kalkama - you should be able to regenerate the DVD image in the way DVDJET and fritzi93 have suggested.

Cobra,it does say in his topic that it was a download, could be a commercial dvd or home dvd but thats up to debate,as to the missing files you can rename the bup files to the ifo files that are missing or corrupt.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

  11. thank you cobra.. it is a home made DVD, downloaded from a friend. Nothing illegal. Fritzi93 I just tried the DVDFab, and it still doesn't work as I have VTS_03_0.IFO and VIDEO_TS.IFO. If I move the VIDEO_TS.IFO and try only with VTS_03_0.IFO, it gives me an error as it is missing VTS_01_0.IFO.. Any ideas??

Rename your VTS_03_0.IFO to VTS_01_0.IFO, also rename your VOBS to match, as in VTS_01_0.VOB, etc. ONLY change the second pair of numbers in each file name to 01. DVDFab isn't seeing the first titleset and erroring out. Read my first post again.

This gets too complicated if you're keeping a menu and extras. All you want is your vobs and the vts ifo associated with it, so you can retain chapters. Get rid of everything else, or move them if it worries you. Rename the files. Then open in DVDFab and try again, it does work. But you have to show DVDFab what it's looking for, so rename your files.

    Good luck.

Thank you for letting us know how it went. The regulars here appreciate feedback a whole lot. Good for you.

[EDIT] Doesn't sound good if you got an error message, it might be fixed enough to play on a forgiving software player, but to burn it...?

While you are fixing the bup and ifo, you can still watch the dvd by dragging the individual vobs over to PowerDVD.
