    Ok, this may be the dumbest question I have ever asked before. But I can't seem to find any info on it....

    I have a Sony DRU500a burner. It only burns up to 4x. My question is, am I able to buy the 8x speed media for my burner and burn it at 4x speed? I know I should know this but I thought I would ask anyway.

    Yes and no...

    I have a Sony DRU500a w/firmware v2.1a. Since I got my burner I had never used anything other than 1-4x +R Memorex and Verbatim that are media code RICOHJPNR01. Up top this point I had never burned a coaster.

    A few weeks ago, Best Buy had the Fuji Film "up to 8X" 100 pack of +R
    on sale for $34.99 so I got a spindle. They are made in Japan with media code YUDEN000T02.

    I'm not too wild about them in my burner. Of the 16 I've burned (at 4x since burner can't go any faster), I've made 3 coasters (burn fails midway through with an error). So either I got a bad batch of Fuji TYs, or my burner just doesn't really like these 8x +R discs.

    Note: I have found some of the Fuji DVD's right off the spindle with "dust" and/or small scratches on them, so I am hoping its just a bad batch. However, the 3 coasters looked fine prior to use.
