  1. I got this free Norcent DP300 that was dismantled from a friend. While it was apart i hooked it all up and put in some DVDs even DVD-Rs and they worked beautifully. I then put everything together in the case and its looks like brand new. I try some music cds, svcds, mp3s, and they all work great. Then i try my DVDs and nothing.... the horrid NO DISC screen!! For every DVD i tried.
Please tell me there is something i can do. I know it was free but i am so angry right now!!! Any suggestions?

Dont be angry ,thats the reason you got a free dvd player cause it had problems, best to just buy a new one for ~$40

  3. Why was it apart?

  4. It was apart because it always gave him problems due to overheating. I was going to install a fan in it to fix that. Im angry because it was working perfectly fine playing DVDs and DVD-Rs. THen after i put everything in its place and the cover on the DVDs didnt work anymore AT ALL.
Could only the DVD laser somehow have burned out?

I'm a bit confused, are you saying that it doesn't work either way now or just when it is together? Either way I don't have much help except that I tore apart a CD burner once and had a hell of a time getting the rubber parts to go back where they belonged. Maybe a screw is pinching something or somthing gets moved out of place or alingment when it goes back together. Don't get too angry, half of the fun of fixing the stuff is in the detective work!

  8. Now it doesnt seem to work either together or back apart like when i got it. Everything but DVDs are working very smoothly. When i put in a DVD it will spin like usual, then after a while will speed up noticibly and then about 15 sec later it will just stop and say NO DISC.
I have no idea if its fixable or not. I hope it is and someone here gives me an idea of how to do it.

About the only thing I can suggest is to clean the laser objective lens. Spray some windex or glass cleaner on a q-tip then carefully wipe it across the lens without using too much force. Then use the other end of the q-tip to wipe it dry.

If that doesn't work, you may have dust inside the laser, since it was left open for a period of time. You could try some "canned air" and spray it into the laser to dislodge any dust that may have settled on the internal prism or pickup section. You can get the air at Walmart or any Radio Shack.

And if none of that works, your laser may be weak and able to read CD's but not DVD's, and the laser pickup assembly could need replacement. Probably more than the unit is worth.

  10. google your dvd player to see if there's a way to "reset" the dvd player.

I have a toshiba dvd player that stopped playing audio for dvd's. Movies would play but no audio. VCD's and music cds played fine. After "resetting" the dvd player, everything was working again.

I think the "resetting" reflashes the flash rom back to factory default.
When I refer to "resetting", it's not a simple power off then on, or just unplugging the dvd player. I had to unplug the dvd player, hold down certain buttons while pluging back in the dvd player. After that there was a series of buttons I had to press.

I don't know what's wrong with your dvd player but this is worth a shot. Good luck.

  11. Thanks for the good suggestion. I doubt it will work but when i get a hold of the remote i'll definitely give it a shot.

    Hi!,

EXACTLY the same thing happened with my Yamada DVX-6600.

I am an electronics engineer which basically means that I just can't help myself when it comes to taking 'things' apart to 'see how they work'. In the case of my Yamada I wanted to unlock its secrets so I disassembled EVERYTHING and reverse engineered a schematic of the player.... (don't ask)!

I then reassembled everything and stuck in a DivX movie on a CD and..... fack! 'No CD' appears on the VFD! In a panic now (with my wifes words "why have you taken the DVD player apart...." still ringing in my ears) so I try another movie and double-fack same again!

I then, just on the off chance tried a DVD and whaddya know - bloody works! So my mind was thinking that one of the two laser diodes on the transort had buggered. (I had a schematic and knew where to test for Laser Diode supply & this was OK).

Anyway, what I did as a last resort was to CLEAN the PCB. Remove it from the case - disconnect all connectors (CAREFULLY) AFTER bonding your arm to EARTH via a wrist strap, then cleaned it using PROPER PCB solvent cleaner (used for cleaning dirt, grease & flux) and a small stiff bristled brush.

And whammo! the bloody thing worked & recognized my CDs!

    WhooHoo.

I would really like you to help me out as much as you can since you did have what sounds like a very similar problem.

Basicaly what he is saying is that he very carefully took everything apart that was meant to come apart, cleaned the hell out of it, and very carefully put it back together.
Find a solvent intended for cleaning electronics and PCBs (Printed Circuit Board). And clean all surfaces and connectors. A magnafier might help you inspect the components. Look for any signs of bad connections or scratched or broken etching on the PCB. Bad solder is my biggest problem after mechanical electrical connectors. Bad solder often looks like a real fine black ring around the solder joint. Bad connectors can vary for different connectors, but probing with a meter correctly can show both issues if you are lucky.

    Isn't this fun!!!
