  1. First, I want to thank lordsmurf for his (I think he's a "he", or are smurfs gender neutral? ) excellent Capture Guide on DigitalFAQ.com. It was extremely helpful for this newbie to get the capture parameters right the first time!

One thing I ran into though -- I have the ATi Radeon 7200 VIVO card and am using ATi's "TV" program to capture, as illustrated in the FAQ. But when I tried upgrading my MMC software first to version 9, it would not capture audio or even let me select the Audio Format -- that listbox was greyed out. I tried a couple of the 9.xx versions and none of them allowed audio. But when I installed v8.9, everything worked fine.

Has anyone run into this and found a solution? I know ATi's latest version (9.03?) requires some kind of .NET update and some newer hardware, but the 9.00 version doesn't as far as I know. However, only v8.x allows audio capture on my system.

    Thanks!
    Bryan

Drivers still installed properly? New drivers?
You're in the INITIALIZATION WIZARD inside MMC?

Yes, I did install the whole 9.0 Catalyst package, or are you talking about the audio drivers? Audio drivers were not changed between the v9.0 and v8.9 install, so I don't thnk that's the problem. I have run the installation wizard, yes. Maybe I just can't use v9.0 on my hardware for some reason? Your examples in the FAQ use v8.1. Have you tried v9.0 yet?

I run 9.0 on my main system, yes.
As usual, a somewhat tricky install, mainly just remembering to set everything up.

  6. Thanks for your help, guys. I think I will wait to uninstall/install things again. I'm in the middle of a conversion project of taking all my home movies on tape and converting to DVD. So I have everything in MMC v8.9 set up and working OK; I don't want to lose my presets and such by uninstalling. I'll take this issue up again after I get done and fiddle around with installing different versions. Thanks again!

You upgraded MMC WITHOUT uninstalling the previous one!!! UH-OH... MISTAKE!!

MUST uninstall EVERYTHING before installing new one.

No, oh Blue One... I did uninstall first. ATi makes that pretty clear.

Well, then just go and ignore my last tidbit of advice. Does not apply.

i believe i made that terrible mistake..I still can capture audio and video just fine, but for some bizarre reason I have to leave the volume properties up on the screen after checking the "line in" box or else it will just capture the video...i'm due for a good ol' fresh load pretty soon anyways. :P
