I have a friend that will be using a movie camera while on vacation, no experience with this even on my end. The camera will be hitching up to a mac laptop via a usb cable. The device uses the type of camera that has to small tapes in them. When he plugs the camera into the compter what can be expected. Is it like iPhoto will it launch iMovie? If it launches iMovie will it slit it into 2 gig segments? The other thing he wants to do is take the files and use toast to mac pc compatible cd's will this be possible. I know this is a lot to ask and appreciate everyone's help, macsys.

The USB connection on a movie camera is usually for transferring still photos. Hopefully, the camera also has a Firewire connection for transferring video. He will need to launch iMovie to capture video via Firewire (which automatically breaks the video into the 2 gig segments). He also can capture directly into Toast 6 using the plug & burn feature. Again, this is via Firewire, not USB.
