You sound like chicken little.

The hackers will continue to find flaws and exploit.

SP2 does help, but when everyone and their dog runs SP2, then continued attacks occur. You can run firefox. It was encouraged people run version 1.0 to minimize risk.

What are you afraid of? You are protected by your router.

Easy answer dont run XP.

Hackers are mostly interested in the latest version of a particular app / software.

I use 2000 and havent had a problem yet (granted i have various securities in place)

I am sitting behind a hardware NAT firewall, a Sygate Personal firewall, running NAV 2005 and Firefox. Although I am sure this isn't a perfectly secure system, it should be able to deter most nasties.

It's good to have various levels of protection. But the sad part is many people infect themselves, allowing things in because they don't know what they're doing. I haven't gotten around to doing much with firefox myself. Everyone seems to be pretty satisfied with it, but I think it too will become a target as it becomes more popular. I think part of the reason it's so 'secure' is because there aren't nearly as many peopele out there LOOKING for flaws.

But IMO Micsrosoft (or whatever name you like to know them by) is somewhat well known for being unable to release software (windows being a superb example) without major flaws in it.

Because of this and the fact that microssoft is a major (huge huge) corporation that hackers enjoy being able to highlight the flaws and embarass such companies. Yes there are a few really malicious hackers that will make your life hell because of it.

I really dont know much about Firefox, and correct me if i am wrong, but i suspect that it is a relatively small company (without global computer domination) that cant afford to release a dodgey product.......

Though AOL/Netscape does use the code they develop as its from their source. But Mozilla.org is org for a reason.
