    I have a Sony HC40 and am having trouble transferring pictures onto my computer through USB... I wanted to try to transfer video so i changed some things in my camera settings or computer settings to try to do soo... Now when i hook up the USB and put the camera on "play/edit" mode, it seems to only want to transfer video... When i go into my device manager, it shows "sony digital Imaging video" as my usb connection, when it used to just say the folder of the pictures....

    I also notice when my usb is hooked up, that my camera used to say USB connection or something along those lines, and now it's just on the video screen and won't let me access my picture book... What do you think i need to change so I can get my pictures off of my camera?

    First I must ask why you want to use the USB connection? Do you realize that will only result in web streaming quality video?

    If you want a quality transfer use the IEEE-1394 (aka I-Link, Firewire) connection.

    I just wanted to see the video on a bigger screen, thats all... I also have a dell, so I have to buy a firewire card to install.....

    Do you know what setting I have to change on my camera or computer so I can view my pictures and not video?

    When I connect the camera through usb, it makes sounds as if it knows its being connected, yet doesn't show it under "devices with removable storage" in My Computer... I dont understand?

    I don't have your exact camcorder. You need to be in picture mode. On my camera that is on the rear power switch. Read your manual.
