I'm pretty sure this thread can belong in this section because I already know how to back up a DVD. All I need help with is editing the subtitles and then burning it back onto DVD-R.

Anyway, my problem is this. The subtitles on a DVD are annoying me so I want to change them. Is it possible to just take the subs, edit them, and then burn it back to a DVD-R with all the original menus working properly?

I used DVD Shrink to get the VOBs onto my computer. I have a tutorial that teaches you how to use VobSub to rip the subtitles. Now, how do I burn it back with all the menus and VOBs with the new subtitles?

  2. This is a guess, but I could be totally wrong on it.

rip the subs...(I know it can be done, just done recall which program to use)

rip the disk and change the vob extensions to mpg

    edit your subs

redo everything in something like dvdlab pro that will take your subs and mpg files and reauthor them.

It's a pretty labor-intensive job...I've tried it and it's a REAL PITA. Sounds like you bought some junky Chinese anime bootleg...lol. You're best bet if that's the case is to find good fansubs and convert the avi's to mpg2's and just author a fresh disk. A little loss in quality is a WHOLE lot easier than going to route you're talking about.

Actually, it's an official Hong Kong DVD. The subtitles are perfect grammar-wise but there are certain terms they used that aren't to my liking. This is for Nausicaa by the way. For Nausicaa's flying ship, it has a name but they just call it "flying ship". It's just little things like that, I'm so picky.

  4. Alternatively, you should look to see if the HK company 'FX' has one of their Perfect Edition dvd's. These are the R1 rips of the dvd's that are sold as HK region 0 dvd's.
