does it matter if I use the lossless jpeg codec or m-jpeg 3 vfw codec?
what's the difference between them?

Use the m-jpeg 3.... It's what you paid for after all. If you want lossless use huffy (free)

With my version of Pic, I can choose either the lossless mjepg or just mjpeg. The lossless does not use any, or very little compression. I have never used it, so I can't tell you much other than I bet the file size will be huge. With the mjpeg codec you can adjust the compression and file size can be much smaller. Most people use 19 as the best setting for quality/size.
