It would seem that some people are having installation issues with SVCD2DVD when using XP Service Pack 2 .

SP2 brings in "Data Execution Prevention" DEP. There is a whole raft of info on this on the MSFT site. DEP causes SVCD2DVD to emit a OCX registration error during installation.

To get SVCD2DVD installed properly, add the /EXECUTE flag to the boot.ini.
/EXECUTE flag disables data execution prevention for the entire system regardless of per-application settings for enabling or disabling data execution prevention
    For example:

    Code:
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Media Center Edition" /fastdetect /EXECUTE
It would seem that if you try changing the settings in the DEP area, Windows will add something (in my case /NoExecute=OptIn to the line in boot.ini)

    Code:
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Media Center Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
it is then necessary to change the line to

    Code:
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Media Center Edition" /fastdetect /EXECUTE
In the above examples your disk settings/OS will be different IT IS THE FLAGS WHICH I AM ILLUSTRATING

Only edit the boot.ini if you know what you are doing. If you don't know what you are doing - don't edit the file as it can stop your PC starting!

Thanks to Alex & Mike for bringing this to my attention.

I will be looking to have a better solution for this soon. In the meantime here is a flash example of what I did:

  2. this is what the error looks like

to edit your boot.ini make sure you have unchecked
"Show hidden files and folders" under Tools/Folder Options... then go to the View tab.. then go to the root of C:\ and right click boot.ini and go to properties from the menu.. then uncheck the 'read-only' and hit ok .. open boot.ini in notepad and edit and save it .. rembember to put your settings back to the way they were

I found out a shorter way to solve that problem..
Go to system/properties/advanced/performance and turn off DEP.
Add the file "msiexec.exe" from windows/system32 to the list.
    Worked without restart for me.

    Thats it, SVCD2DVD-Install working now

Yet another problem caused by your asinine copy potection system... why am I not surprised

For those of you turning off DEP, be sure to turn it back on again once you're done installing. DEP isn't some piece of useless microsoft fluff; it's there to enhance system security.

  10. I found DEP to be a royal pain in the a**, several apps other than SVCD2DVD wouldn't work unless I turned it off via the Execute command. I have my reservations as to the security DEP provides that I can't get from other security-protection apps, so it's off and will stay off on my computer.

YMMV, but I myself can live without DEP.

This issue has now been fixed. No need to adjust the XP DEP settings anymore - the current versions of SVCD2DVD on the site are now DEP compatible.
