I'm trying to download a file directly to cd-r but I'm getting this message:

"You do not have permission to save in this directory. See the administrator to obtain permission."

How do I give myself "permission" to download directly to cd-r?

Uhm... CDs don't work that way unless perhaps you have special direct write software installed. You must save to the hard drive THEN burn it with burn software.

Without said "software" (DLA I think) the CR-R wouldn't be recognized by the OS so how could an error message be produced??

I'm guessing he just doesn't have permission to the "drive" itself...

He could insert a blank disk and attempt to browse to the drive letter. Then he gets the message. XP will allow you to open a blank disk because of its burn function.

  6. Yeah, what they said, and whenever i put in a blank disk XP reads it as blank, and lets me navigate to it. Annoyingly it also autoruns the disk and pops up 'How do you want to read this?'.

Choose the 'no action' & then choose to do that anytime a disk is inserted.

Thanks - I will. I'm so used to mindlessly closing dialogue boxes and popups that I never bother looking into how to get them to do anything else
