Hello,
I'm in the market for a good PCI DDR 3d card.
Requirements:
Under $100US
PCI
available at www.tigerdirect.com (I had to return an agp card I can't use so I'm stuck with store credit there - not there fault, my fault for picking wrong).
So is 128mb still adequate or if I can find a 256 for just under $100 should I get the 256????
Thanks.
Kevin

Hello,

My god a 256mb ddr 3d card for under $100!!!! Anyone heard of the brand??? It is a ati radeon 9200 chip.
Would this be a better deal than a diamond 128 ddr??
Kevin
Edit - in case the link doesn't work here's the card:

yeah ive heard of them.. actually i think CC and BB sells them off the shclf.. the brand is not bad from what i hear.. im not sure about the 9200 in general.. i would opt for the 9600 or higher personaly.. i posted a link to one i got for 80 bux.. its only 128 but got great reviews.. im looking for more info on the 9200.. if i were you i would go to the ati site and do a compare of the 9200 9600 chips etc.. even with 256 it still might not be as good as some newer 128 cards.

Hello,
Thanks Heywould3. I just want enough horsepower to run new games like DOOM3
Even if it's a touch lower than the 9600 I think it would be a good buy.
I'll keep a look out for the 9600 though. And I'm limited to tigerdirect since I had to return my card

here is what ati says.. they dont list the 256 9200 but they do have the 9250 256.. the standard 9600 is alot faster..
i know its AGP.. but other oems that use the ati chips will make a pci version of that.. i would use the ati site to look at other options. -
Hello,
Sorry I'm stuck with tigerdirect. It looks like the highest pci they've got is the 9250. I think I'm gonna get the 256mb 9200 pci card. I think just having the necessary guts is important. I won't really notice the difference since the newest game I played was Medal Of Honor (the last I could run anyway).
So I think I'll be happy with a "last generation" card. It'll still be able to handle stuff for a few years.

yeah.. i didnt notice the tigerdirect statement till later.. i looked at the site and thats the top card they have for PCI.. are you sure there is no AGP slot on your mobo? i have a computer that has integrated video that has a memorry chip stuck into the agp slot.. it makes it look different than a typical agp. just a thought

But I think I'll be very happy with a slightly older 256 9200 card
That is once they receive the returned card I sent last night and give me my credit minus the restock fee

If that's the fastest PCI card they have, and you have to go with them, I guess that's that! If they have a 128 meg version you might as well go with that. I've heard that in some cases a 256 can in fact be slower, and any game that card has a hope of playing won't possibly benefit from more than 128 megs, so it's probably just money you'll never get a return on.

Thanks.

I have the ATI Radeon 9200 128 MB and it works well, it's in my daughters computer I just updated my computer with a Saphire Radeon 9600 Pro Advantage 256 MB card for myself and I'd say te extra RAM is just a waste of money it was $10 extra so I decided to get it just so I could say I have a 256 MB Card.
But the ATI 9200 that I have works well and even ram DOOM 3 good, but it's true ATI Card I've heard other brands of this card aren't as good.
