    i saw a sign the other night that CC was giving hd dvd players with a purchase of any of their i think it was DLP tv's. i started laughing. im pretty sure that hd dvd isnt ready yet. i think they are calling regular dvd players hi def. sad thing is i dont think average joe would even know the dif. i was gonna start harassing the sales guy but i was short on time

    I read something today that makes this story even more ridiculous. The FCC is trying to already make hi-def tv's obsolete, and the hidef revoultion is still in it's infancy.

    not really, it was on a few printed signs in the store....it just basically said FREE HD DVD PLAYER WITH PURCHASE OF TV or something to that effect in big bold black letters

    how is that gonna be possible when the standard for broadcasting is supposed to be HD TV by 2006?????

    They must either be talking about progressive scan dvd players or players that digitally upsize the resolution to HD size before outputting. Either of these features would make the DVD player more suitable for playing DVDs on an HD capable tv, but obviously that wouldn't make it an HD-DVD player...but the average Circuit City customer wouldn't know the difference.

    I wonder if the person who thought up this promotion is really this dishonest or just that stupid.

    I wish I could remeber the link but it said the fcc was going to make the manufacturers down-rez the tv's.

  12. There are DVD players that offer to play back
    Divx/Xvis and WM9 at full HD resolution - but you
    have to encode the movies yourself.
