  1. I have a ATI TV Wonder Pro card. I am doing my research on capturing and have learned quite a bit. However, I seem to be a bit confused. I have seen some people say that using the MMC software that came with my card is very much recommended and is great software and then I have seen others say do NOT use it and use something like virtualdub or virtualvcr. When capturing to mpeg2 in ati's software what codec am I using? Is there a way to change it.. from my understanding most people capture then use something like cinecraft to encode it..

    Thanks!

Check out the ati capture card guides at www.digitalfaq.com
Very detailed guides on capturing avi and/or mpeg using ati cards.

  3. I have actually read that along with the others on that site however the ATI software takes up so much cpu and memory on my machine it seems virtualvcr runs much smoother.

The frame grab that you showed has noise on it. I'm assuming that this is from an off-air analogue TV channel so the noise is being caused by either not enough signal or amplifier noise from a signal booster.
