I have a video that, when played in Windows Media Player shows a timing of 50 mins but its actual playing time is more than that.
When I attempt to drag the progress bar to the end, the video continues playing meaning that there's more to the video than the stipulated timing.
Is there something wrong with this clip? If so are there any recommended tools to fix this problem?

Sounds like a problem with the format in Media Player.
Media Player is far from being a good app for checking out videos for things like timing, lip sync, etc.
Open the video in a software DVD player. They all allow you to open MPEG files. Just direct it to the file instead of the DVD folder
Or you could open it in TMPGEnc and check the properties. This is handy because it'll also allow you to encode it to a DVD-compliant file if need be
