  1. I was using a Video Creator II which worked great, saved to MPG
I could edit with the TMPGE editor and life was good...

I bought a ADVC-100 hoping for a bit more quality (don't really know that I got it). It saves to AVI files. I am trying out the trial Main Concepts codec when I capture to the AVI file... Seems about the best but not a lot of differance, could not make the panasonic work.

Could not get Virtual Dub to show anything in capture? Hmm...

BUT here is the problem, I have a three minute AVI clip I want to cut about 3 seconds out of. What will edit this clip with out rerendering?
Vitrual Dub turned a 417mb file into 3.4Gb and took its sweet time doing so. I tried a coupla of the ones in the tools section without much sucess.

You need to set the audio and video to "direct stream copy" before you save so that the compression is preserved, otherwise Vdub will uncompress it creating a verrrry large file. (It'll be faster that way too!)

  3. Thanks ZippyP. for the help!
Please keep answering the dumb questions. Saves a lot of frustration.
Came out in less than a minute and at 413MB!

The ADVC-100 is a fiiiiiine piece of hardware IMO

I think you'll find that your firewire card/port will need a VFW codec to be able to be seen by virtualdub - Out of the three cards I have, none of them have this. I just use Scenalyzerlive to "capture", but there's also DVIO or WinDV that do a bang-up job IMO.

BTW, what Zippy said re: dumb questions
    If in doubt, Google it.
