This may have been coverd before but not enough info for my set up.

My concern is a post in the mac forum about that after a period of time the top whiteof Compusa dvd's starts to flake off.

It took me quite awhile to find the software and the the , brand, coulor of the disk. ect.I use Mac the ripper, then DVD2oneX to fit it on one disk (even the dual layer disks ) can fit on one disk in fact it is so reliable i don't let toast verify them any more they always come out perfect

Question is it possable to spray a thin layer of some kind of varnish or somthing similar. As long as you don't get any on the recorded side wouldn't I would think would work to prevent the top layer from flakeing down the line? Do you also spray dvd's that have silver tops?
I can't think of a better way to keep this from happening, i'm talking a very thin layer sprayed on would have no affect the performance of the disk.
Compusa's disks plays on most home players no problem, so i woul like to stick to what works the best, the disks have to be a fixed 1X only to work.

I understand that beall disks from meritline silver are good disks. I'm using a pioneer 104 using Compusa General use 1X i have yet to have made a single coaster.

    Thanks

DVDs have a plastic top, unlike CDs. Should be fine.

However, PRINCO media is what you have, and it's not very good. You'd better test them thoroughly before committing to them.

My main question is about spraying
    Why do you do it
Do you spray printed dvd's, the ones that have a white top
Do you spray silver disks, the ones with no white top

I first heard about "flaking"were the ones with a white top in another forum here.

I have been using Compusa 1X speed and when i burn them on a Pioneer 104, no coasters burning 80 disks they play on almost every player.

Is the reason for spraying is to keep the top layer from "flaking"

Say what you will about Compusa disks but they work fine for me
    .
Because of what i have read here i ordered 50 Beall on a spindle from Meritline.
One thing i do know is i have used Sony 1x-4X many coasters, same with Memorex and Maxell

Please i need help some of the original material is no longer around.

    Thanks

  5. I think most people who spray their disks are doing it to protect their inkjet printing (some inks have a tendency to smudge).

I doubt spraying will do much to prevent disks from flaking, if they're prone to flaking. The spray won't do anything to improve the adhesion of the white covering. It'd be like painting over flaking paint - futile.

That white PRINCO stuff is on top of the upper plastic anyway. YOu can "flake" all of it off, and the disc should still be fine. Sort of.

Best to just copy it to a new disc, a GOOD disc, and quit using PRINCO. Better stuff exists, some of it even cheaper.
