  1. I was trying to make a DVD from a VHS tape last night. The tape was one I'd recorded off of the TV. I'd already copied other tapes, even commercial movies from the VCR to my JVC DVD Recorder without problem.

So, does anyone have any idea why it would think one of my homemade VHS tapes would be copy protected?

Is there a switch or button I'm not pushing ?

    Thanks

    Hello,

Well it would reduce the quality a little but you could dub the tape to another tape and try it again

Maybe it's just a funky tape the recorder doesn't like

Probably noise on the tape being mistaken for Macrovision.

AFAIK, about all you can do is get a Mocrovision remover or se if there is a hack for your DVD recorder to disable macrovision detection.

    Or simply try another VCR

  4. The least expensive device that may help is a "stabilizer" or "clarifier" that restores the sync pulse signal to a standard level. Sima Copy This is an example of this type of unit.

Why wouldn't some of those have another level of macrovision?

  6. Sometimes sync pulse signal errors (or video noise) can cause false MV detection in recorders.

thecoalman has an infomative posting about this problem here:

Because at least on standard broadcast tv they don't have the copy protection embedded in the signal. That's WHY vcr's can record tv

Though that's about to change when they include the "broadcast flag" for hdtv signals that restrict digital recordings .

  8. I have a Sima Color Correction Pro Model SCC. It works very well to put Commercial VHS tapes onto my computer by the capture card.

However, when I put it between my VCR and my JVC DVD recorder, it still wouldn't let me copy the homemade VHS tape.

I guess noise on the tapes is probably the answer, but you'd think the Sima would still help

I will look into the Sima COpy This. Thanks everyone!
