Well, it's been a nice run, but it's finally come to an end.

My desktop PC, which is listed in my profile finally bought the farm today. In the middle of a 3D rendering, the 2.2 AMD sitting in my ASUS A7V333 MoBo had been clocking 100% for about 10 hours when things started sounding a little funny. A few moments later down it went and I have been working on it since about 5 pm and it's not came back up yet...and it's not going to.

Took it all to my friend's house, checked my PSU, it was good. Checked my RAM it was good, checked my video card, it was good. Checked CPU and 3 different boards wouldn't post. Tried a different processor in my board, it failed the CPU test, tried them in his board and they worked.

Now typically this is cause for great sadness and actually I am sad just because my system was self built and I am without a desktop PC tonight, however, while at my friend's house the only processor he had was a 1.7 AMD, which is too slow for the video I need to do this weekend. So he says "I think it's time you upgrade anyway." I said "what do you have?" he says "well, I've got 5 P4 MoBo's, but I don't have any P4 processors here. BUT, I'll run into work tomorrow and pick you up a 2.8 Ghz P4. I'll give you a call tomorrow." I said "that's great, how much will all of this cost me?" and he said "Well, MoBo, Processor, a P4 tower, I'll throw in a 512 stick of DDR RAM and an ATI 9800 video card for....under $75 sound fair?"

So what do you guys think? Does that sound fair?

Sorry to hear about your PC's untimely retirement Northcat .

As far as the MB, if its a good and reliable brand (and specs), as well as the RAM, then I would think $75 is a good deal, since those components bought seperately would be well over $75. Just be sure your PS will work good with it as well. Hope it works out

Acks! I just built a pc today cuz my parents pc went dead a few days ago. I was too lazy to check everything out but I knew for sure the memory went bad. Cost too much to replace pc133 ram. I had a extra pent 4 mobo and a 2.26ghz chip.

I feel your pain that your pc died but you're getting a great deal!
I'll pay for shipping if he can give me a deal like that!

Wait, wait, You better check and make sure that is not after about $600 in mail-in-rebates. Just joking, sounds like an awsome deal northcat.

  11. Even with a staff discount @ $75 he is taking
a personal hit. How much depends on the
type of ATI9800 card (se,val, pro, ultra) and
brand as well as the brand of mboard/memory.

Sounds like you have a good friend there Northie
