  1. I have a TDK velocd 5200B CD Burner and i have been using it for months without any problems. All of a sudden i started to have burning problems so i unstalled nero, and used their cleaning tools. Then i did a fresh install of nero 6.6 and i noticed a weird problem. The first time i try to burn something my burner spins down at 94% for a few seconds, then starts up and finishes successfully, but data verification fails. The second time i try, right after (like 1 min), using the same session window. This time it is sucessful. This happens no matter what media i use or what speed i burn at. I burn using disc-at-once mode so it should never spin down mid burn. I have no idea how to fix this. I dont think its my burner b/c TDK are pretty reliable. I need some serious help.

PS: if any one knows of a program that lets me see what commands are being sent to burner so i can isolate what causes it to spin down that would be a great help.

PPS: If anyone wants a log file i can post it, although i've spent alot of time looking at it and i cant find the problem, but then again i am only a amature.

  3. First thing you should do is to eliminate all programs running in the background. Click on Start, then Run, and type in Msconfig. Look under the startup tab and uncheck everything you don't absolutely need. I always make sure nothing is checked there. Then go the Services tab and uncheck all unnecessary services. It's usually safe to disable more than half of those. Reboot and try to burn again. Of course, use a ReWritable until you've found the problem.

    Hope that helps.

  5. When my burner spins-down the buffer stays at full, than the burner spins up and empties the buffer. I usually dont have any programs running in the background. I can only burn CD-RW at 24x. I used record now, and im pretty sure the same thing happened. That programs doesnt show all the stats that nero does so i dont know for sure. The thing that gets me is i've been using nero and the same burner for so long without problems, but now all of a sudden it doesnt work.
