    Is it possible to put switchable subtitles (on and off) on an avi file? How can I do this?

    Thay cannot be "muxed" in the same sense that a VOB file muxes the video & the subtitles, but you can do this:

    Make an ASX metafile that references both the AVI(s) and a SAMI-formatted subtitle file(s).
    Check Microsoft's website for info on these formats and their structure/protocol.
