    Hi Baldrick / Mods,

Would it be possible to add a line in to the users profile of when they last signed on to the site?

I ask coz, when hunting through threads looking for answers, I sometimes woudl like to PM someone but the thread is a few months (or longer) old and I don't know how regularly they visit / when they last visited.

If someone is currently online, then it could say just that.

I know that there was a thread recently asking for some kind of ranking depending on how often someone logged in, but nothing came of it (nudge, nudge...)

    Cheers,
    Daamon.

The info is already there (Who's logged on https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewonline.php ).

As far as when the person last logged on, checked for the newest post that they posted.

If you PM someone, they usually get an email telling them that there is a PM waiting for them.

I think anything more than that would be close to stalking. Some people just don't want to be bothered, and we should respect that.

I don't want to know who's logged on now (I know how to find that), but when someone last logged in to see if it's worth PM'ing them.

Hmmm... Not the best solution IMO.

So what about people who (like me) log on regularly andjust browse - only posting where I can add benefit. I post a lo less than I browse, but I'm regularly on the site. So, people would know that they could PM me and have a good chance of me seing it soon...

I disagree - I've got my email notification turned off. I wouldn't like to rely on hoping people get an email...

Mmmm... Maybe. Make it an optional thing by having a tick box in the profile settings. Most people here like to lend help, so I don't see why they'd feel like they're being stalked (I wouldn't) and so wouldn't mind having others know when they last logged on.

Let's face it - at the end of the day the receipient retains control because they can choose to answer, postpone or delete.

My reference to another thread was this one. The "banned" aspect was adopted by Baldrick, but I still think the rest of it would add value too...

I like the way you were thinking jimmalenko... I didn't realise, until I re-read your thread, that it also included the reference to how recently someone had logged on - I just remember the "banned" bit.

So, if Baldrick adopts this, I reckon you should put a notch on your bedpost...

funnily enough, setting the user status to banned was an afterthought, yet it was the only part of that idea that got implemented
    If in doubt, Google it.

I do not have a problem with this, as long as it's not in the left panel. If the user as to click or do something to get it, it's fine (it can be at the same place where you see the thread count).

    Daamon.

All other forums have complicated systems, where ranking is honored and cherished.

I have found, so far, only one forum that it's pretty much free of all that bullshit.

    Here :P

Ranking is the worst part of forums IMO. I do not care how many post someone has made.
In fact, I do not even understand who can cares about this.

I hope this forum will continue like this...

So far, I have see one breach of this "non-written" rule: the 10,000th post by capmaster.
So what! We all know is a huuuuuuggggggeeeee PW. :P

YOU ARE IN BREACH OF THE FORUM RULES.

I agree with your comments - "ranking" was the wrong word. It's more an indication on someone's level of activity in terms of time, not posts. Here's an excerpt from the other thread, suggestion how it could work:

Green = Active (posted within the last week)
Blue = Dormant (no posts in the last 2 months)
Black = MIA (no posts in more than 2 months)
    Red = Banned
    White = Noob (No posts)

    or...

Compare said user's last posting date to current system date. If they have posted within the last week/fortnight, set status to regular, the last month = Dormant, the last 6 months = MIA, and so on ....

Or a combination of both somehow?

    Daamon,

Color system's are always fine with me

    I'm colorblind

Just kidding: I'm fine with simple color system.

If a time system is to be established, I'd prefer this to be based on the "last log-in" date.
