  1. I have used InstantCopy 7 since it was released a long time ago. I most say I have been satisfised with the program most times. I have also used DVD shrink and DVD2DVDr, but IC have been my choice for most backups. However time moves forward and I consider to move on to InstantCopy 8. I'm not very up to date on InstantCopy 8. If I'm going to change/update to this program, it most give me something better than IC7 did, but I figured Pinnacle most have developed InstantCopy over the past year, right? I don't care about new fast mode and so on, quality is what I consider most importent!

So I would be glad if some IC users can post their opinions on IC8 and if it beat the old IC7. How about quality compared between those two?

  2. I used IC8 for all my backups, until I tried DVDShrink 3.2. I looked at head to head comparisons from dlooping. I haven't use IC8 since.

Then again, most of the time I use DVDRebuilder as it beats them both hands down

I have both versions and they are terrible at file size calculations, undersizing by up to 10%.
I now use clonedvd for some dvd's,and dvdrebuilder for the bulk of my movies.Record now max to burn.

  4. dvdrebuilder in not realy a way to go for me, because I want to keep the extras!

However I decide to give IC8 a try. Installed latest version and tried it on Troy. It gave me a output file 4.11gb. So I tried it again, this time I oversize it to 4.55gb and thougt it would came out perfect, but it didn't. Again it gave me a size 4.11gb, strange!

Never had any size problems with IC7 and as long as no one seems to claim that IC8 beat IC7 in quality I can as well throw IC8 away and go back to IC7. However I don't understand how Pinnacle can release a new version of IC, that's not better then the old one.

Actually, DVDRebuilder lets you keep the extras. It only encodes what you give it. If you want to REMOVE extras, then you have to pre-process the files BEFORE you give it to Rebuilder.

The only thing that Rebuilder lets you remove on-the-fly is audio and subtitle tracks. You have to use a 3rd party apps (ie. DVDRemake, VobBlanker, etc.) to strip unwanted extras, prior to encoding with Rebuilder.

I've given up on IC myself (to many probs after my OS upgrade)... now I use DVDRebuilder/CCE and DVDShrink exclusively.

Heck, the only gripes I have with DVDRebuilder is speed (but that's because I choose to do 4-pass encoding), and the fact that it doesn't retain Close Captioning. Other than that, it's a GREAT app.
