  1. Hi,

My broter bougth a Cartoons DVD for his kids and asked me to do a backup (you know how kids plays with dvd's :P ).

So I wanted to rip it with DVD Decrypter. It was the first time I do a backup of a RCE protected disk (it's a DVD region 2,4,5).
I tried to rip but the the program fails when trying to rip the files VTS_01_3.VOB, VTS_01_4.VOB and VTS_01_5.VOB (the vobs VTS_01_6.VOB and VTS_01_7.VOB rips without any problem).

I think there is some kind of copy protected embedded into the disk because some files have a strange size.

The vob n°4 is only 99778 KB and generally always the last vob is shorter.
This vob is completely unrippable (unrecovered read error).

The VTS_01_3.VOB rips up to +/- 223000 kb and then all unrecovered read error occured. It's the same for the VTS_01_5.VOB.

It seems there is a protection around the VOB N°4.

I've even tried with AnyDVD and the option "Copy Protection based on unreadable sectors".

It plays fine on the standalone player. I tried to play in in my laptop with power dvd and it hangs when trying to play the unrippable vobs.

    What can I do ?

There are lots of dvd's that have a smaller vob file in the middle of all the vobs .... this is not a problem .... the problem here is read errors caused by your drive not being able to read the disk ...either the the disc is dirty or damaged or maybe the laser on your drive needs cleaning .... try cleaning the disk and the drive's laser .... if you still have problems try ripping with a different drive if you have access to one .... if it still fails then return the disk to the shop and ask for a replacement .... also you might want to try setting the rip speed lower as this often helps

  3. Had this same Problem the other day. Like "psx_pirate" said try another DVD drive, What worked for me was, i riped the dvd with a pc without DVD Player software. The DVD wasnt dirty and one drive would rip to 33% and the other would go to 66% then give me the error. That was the only way it worked for me, but maybe for you just trying another drive will work. I think my DVD had some kind of Fake files or somthing still reading up on it..

  4. I've tried on my DVD-Burner and the error occurs at exactly the same point. Maybe a defect on the disk. The strange thing is that this disk plays fine on 2 standalone dvd players.
