  1. I have used DVD Shrink 3.1 to help me back up back up a DVD. No problems with this part. However, when using Nero Express 6 the burn process will not commence and I get a message saying 'SCSI/IDE error. Could not perform Start of Disc at once'. What does this mean ? I have followed the Nero help guide word for word and am yet to burn my first DVD. This is very frustrating. Yes, I have selected the DVD icon when Nero first opens. I can successfully burn CDs but my Sony DW-U18A but DVDs elude me. Any help would be appreciated.

I myself would just give up on Nero for this purpose and use DVDDecrpyter. It works fine with DVDShrink. Just uncheck burn with Nero in preferences. Or you can uninstall/reinstall Nero as that sometimes cures the problem.

The simple solution for Nero 6 is Nero 5.5.x.x

Is NERO recognizing your Sony as a DVD/r drive or just a CD/r drive? (look in the drop down menu on Express's first screen....DO NOT TRY AND BURN A DVD WITH THE SAME DRIVE SELECTED IN CD MODE.........................................DOH!! ).

There is also a REGISTRY CHECKER from NERO that can correct any errors if your drive(s) are missing from 'My Computer' or are shown incorrect. Try it....usually caused by having different burning software on your pc that dont 'get on'.
