I bought a 25 pack of the yellow top Maxell's from NewEgg, and they were Media ID Ritek G04. I've had tons of problems with this media. I bought some from Staples, and they were the MXL Media ID. How do I buy to ensure that I am getting the better ID? These ones I got from NewEgg also have the crappy glue job. You know what I'm talking about.

Yep, a while ago it happened. Made in Taiwan Maxells.

The Maxell printables are still made in Japan but I am not 100% sure for all of them.

Other than that, try to contact a store before hand and ask.

I mean, why the hell am I buying Maxell's? If I wanted Ritek G04, I'd buy Ritek G04's. For half the goddam price.

Sorry, I'm just a little pissed that I spent almost a dollar a piece (which I have no problem with, I have 700 Indiana basketball games on VHS that I want to have for a long, long time, and I want to be right the first time, and copy right every time) when I could have gotten the same crap for half the cost.

Thanks. I will do that from now on. It's too hard to find the Maxell's I want at a decent cost. Of course, WalMart carries the Maxell's. Wonder if they are the right media ID? With what I'm doing, I'm not worried about the cost. I'm worried about the quality. I have no problems at all spending even $2 a piece for something that I will pass on to my son, my Indiana University basketball collection.

It's best to purchase MAXELL DVD-R MEDIA from retail stores like OFFICE DEPOT because at least you can read the spindle if it says, " MADE IN JAPAN" or if it says, "MADE IN TAIWAN" which is RITEK G04. Here read this link from a few months ago that I posted about MADE IN TAIWAN MAXELL.

As already posted if you want good quality dvd media purchase TAIYO YUDEN from RIMA.COM.
