Still trying to decide on the easiest method to take OLD slp vhs tapes and convert them to DVD.
They invariably go out of synch when I use the WINFAST 2000dlx. I know I could use a canopus product, but I'm also considering this.

I see it has a tbc in it, and I'd like opinions.
And the bonus is.... no more trancoding???![]()

The TBC in this basically does nothing.
I have this machine and I like it, but don't buy it expecting the TBC to fix VHS tapes. I have a Datavideo TBC-1000 hooked up to my E55 and it has produced great results. -
Say What!?
This machine will ABSOLUTELY make you a quality DVD while also
repairing minor VHS drop-outs, sync issues, and tracking.
The built in TBC is VERY effective.
It's a good machine, but I'd still recommend the
Lite-On 5005 instead. (Costco $199)
I don't know if it will fix your issues with the WINFAST card.
Try it, if not get an ADS, DATAVIDEO, or CANAPUSS.
These, ssed in conjunction with one of the above machines will
give Hi-quality results. -

The TBC's in DVD recorders are "line" TBC's. They are not full frame devices and are only effective in correcting the sync timing of good sources with no copy protection. They are not robust enough to deal with poor quality or copy protected tapes. You need a full frame TBC for that. Two decent consumer full frame TBC's are the Datavideo TBC-1000 and the AV Tools AVT-8710.

TBC's found inside DVD recorders may as well not even exist. They are 99% worthless.
If you want a TBC, get a TBC.
With that said, you most likely have another problem. Sync errors are usually caused from dropped frames. To troubleshoot dropped frames:

The Lord has spoken
In all sincerity, I thank each of you for the input.
Actually I have no troubles with any capture from TV or backing up good quality copyrighted commercial or personally made vhs. None. All in synch, etc.
These recordings are 15 years old and recorded at slp. They are not copyrighted... and luckily they have only been played 2 or 3 times over the years.
Dropped frames makes sense. But it is definately not my PC, OS or capture card causing it. What I need is the cheapest decent device that will keep the audio and video in synch. The capture always goes off at between 15 - 18 minutes, so I suppose I could look for a scene shift and do a lot of editing but I'd rather not.
