I recently re-installed Windows XP and i have earthlink. I use Network Connections to connect to the internet. Now when i connect the internet works for about 1 minute. I know that the internet is connected because download applications still stay connected and can still download files, but internet explorer just "quits" It doesnt even try to load any web pages. (Gives me Cant find error, I think) Although it works for about a min. Any way to fix this? I used IE and firefox but neither seem o work. i used Network Connections to connect and the default earthlink program.

    Thanks in Advance.

Yeah and SP1 or SP2 or no SP at all?

Try running scf /scannow from a command prompt. For more info look here:

  4. I have had the same problem when I upgraded to the Eartlink 2004 software. I had to go back to the 2003 software. I called their service department for help but they must be outsourcing because I could never get anyone I could understand. I just gave up. I really wanted the 'speed enhancement' available on the 2004 version, but don't want to spend any more time trying to figure it out.
If it works, don't fix it.

    They did outsource.

I have a friend that used to work for them, and he got laid off because of outsourcing.

You don't earthlink software at all, just create a new dial up connectionwith appropiate number, username and password.

Worked for me for years, just used it the other day when my cable died. Fortunatley it's back..... that sucked, I never want to here my modem dial again.

I know this is a moot point is you can not get online... But if you are online and you need to "speak" with Earthlink tech dept use their live chat sevice. It is the bomb! It works like a popup IM box and you can have a transcipt emailed to you at the end.
