  1. This board seems to have the most helpful info i've found on making backups of my DVDs, the articles being especially helpful. I was just wondering if there's a Movie Forum where we could discuss problems with certain discs and what others have done to overcome them. It would be helpful with long movies with loads of extras as well (like LOTR Extended Editions.)

    Just a thought...unless I missed it.

It seems there is already a forum for whatever problems might crop up with a movie:

If it's the disc itself, the Media forum
If it's ripping to a backup, the DVD To DVDR forum
If it's the movie (comments, reviews) it's the Off Topic forum

I think he means something like 2Cool's itemised list over at Doom9. It lists particularly "troublesome" movies and a step-by-step guide for each, customised to overcome the particular protection or any other issues that a particular title may have that is unique to it.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Ahhh, gotcha. But that still seems like something appropriate for the DVD To DVDR forum. I don't think we've had enough posting on that topic to warrant a separate forum, but I could be wrong

And I think I'll move this to feedback, since it's a suggestion/question about the forum ....

  5. What I was getting at is what jimmalenko touched on, a "Movie Forum" with threads like: "The Official Day After Tomorrow Thread" type of threads where people can discuss problems they might have with a given title or tips for "editing" a title down for as little compression as possible, etc.

Just a thought...sorry for not posting it in the correct forum initially.

It would possibly make it easier and quicker to find the help you require I guess, but then again, the forum search is greatly underrated

I'm sure Cap, you will remember petar's thread regarding The House of Sand And Fog and what turned out to be deliberate mastering errors. In that instance, it would haven been handy and much much quicker to be able to go to the movie forum then look up that particular movie, instead of sifting through 330,000 posts all titled "Help, I can't rip a movie".

Either way, I think there's some validity to it, but there is already a pretty good structure in place.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I know changes like that have to have a lot of support before they're implemented. While I agree there's merit, I'm not sure there would be enough demand for that to make it worth it yet.

Maybe others that disagree can chime in here and set the record straight
