Just curious as to what format do studios use when writing dvd's. Is it DVD-R DL or DVD+R DL? The reason why I ask is because all dvd players obviously play dvd movies which would be baught from a store. So this would suggest that the format they use is compatible with all dvd players. So when burning a DL dvd I would like to choose the most compatible format. Also would the brand of dvd media be another issue for dvd player compatibility?

Hello,
Your burning so it won't be 100% compatible all the time.
The studios don't use + or - r. They commercially press them in a machine dedicated for it. They use exacting standards that will always work.
We can't duplicate that precisely. Sorry.

Since the previous poster didnt answer your question..
DVD presses discs in a -ROM. While you can burn +R's as ROM's..they wont really be ROM's..just +R's with a different booksetting. This *can* help compatibility, but it'll still never be a real ROM.
