  1. Just bought the ADVC-100. 2 Quick questions, 1st, how much space will 2 hours of video from an analog source (8mm, VHS) take up on the hard drive? 2nd, I'll be using firewire from the Canopus to my computer. Will the firewire transfer just video, or both audio and video? Thanks.

    1. What program are you using to capture and to what format?

    2. It will transfer both video and audio.

  3. I'll be using Adobe Premiere pro, but I haven't done this before. I want to ultimately burn to DVD, and don't know which format would be best.

The number I recall is 13GB/HR. So ~26GB.

A few tips; I use WinDV to transfer because of the preview window, but DVIO and Scenalyzer are popular.

Mainconcept will do DV to MPG conversion on the fly from the ADVC100, but at reduced quality.

    I generally use Type2 DV.

Virtualdub will accept the DV file with a added codec; Panasonic works for me. VD is good for filtering. VD can also frameserve to TMPGEnc encoder to cut down on file space use.

I hope ADVC has improved their manual. With my unit the info was minimal. I had to dig around a little to find out how the unit worked. I like it though, no more dropped frames. 8)

You can also disable the micro vision protection on the advc-100 which is nice for backing vhs movies

The file size for 2hrs is around 26GB. I use WinDV or Nero Vision Express. I use the capture portion of NVE because you can set the start and stop time for the recording. Unfortunately you can not set a date or schedule more than (1) recording.

I have recently been looking at ScenalyzerLive and it looks as though you
can schedule multiple recording times and dates. The DV transfer from the
Canopus is simple and is good for both audio and video.
