  1. My tvcard took a crap so looking into the Dazzle Digital Video Creator 150 or maybe buying another tv card. The Dazzle supports usb 2.0 however i dont have that on my old pc. So was wondering is the usb 1 a faster transfer than just using a composite video with a tvcard.

Thanks all I love this site!

Even screaming along at 15 Mbps (out of spec max for MPEG2 HW capture), and adding 500 Kbps for audio, you're nowhere near even 10%of what USB2 can theoretically handle, which is 480 Mbps. Realistic speeds are much lower, but way, way above capture rates

USB1.1 (11 Mbps max.) can handle most captures just fine, but the capture app usually limits the top end to 6500 Kbps. Still respectable, but you'll need to use an active cable and tweak the registry to get up to 9800 Kbps (spec. max).

Comparing it to s-video is comparing apples and oranges since these are digital interfaces and s-video is analog and not limited in bandwidth like the USB interfaces are.

Why you stuck? USB2/Firewire PCI cards can be purchased fairly cheap. Capturing using USB will be nothing but a hassle.

I also use the WINTV PVR USB2. Works very well with no trouble.

  8. OK, but if you're gonna put in a PCI card anyway, why not just get a PCI capture card like a Hauppauge PVR250? Unless you need USB2.0 for other stuff, of course...

I can think of one thing....... $120

Edit: He doesn't have a capture card yet .... good point. I see eveyone that has a Hauppage loves it, my only thought on that is that it doesn't do AVI.

True. Is there a card that does all that the Dazzle does in a PCI format? My reasoning is, I tried a couple USB solutions and wasn't happy with the results, even though the USB bandwidth wasn't the issue. Now with USB2.0 things may be better, but IMO unless you have a need to be portable with it, it's just extra unneeded complexity & cost.

Looks like he got the PVR USB2.0. Maybe it's just the thing. IIRC it doesn't cap audio at DVD standard 48k; maybe they changed that. Plus, that was MY need, not his...

Ummm the AIW's come to mind, pretty sure that's mpg hardware encoder. Me personally, I need AVI. I use the canopus 110. I apply a very light noise filter to all my analog captures. Just enough to smooth it out. The only reason I could see purchasing a strictly mpg encoder would be in a commercial setting offering cheap single copy no editing conversions.
