The IT department at work just installed a Web filter system (Web Marshall I think its called). This is in order to 'enforce IT best practice and to protect emplyees'. It has blocked the videohelp forum pages from me. There is a small posssibility that I can get the site unblocked but in the meantime any one have any ideas how I can get round this?

Citrix Server... do they use Citrix at all to support remote access to server resources... You may be able to then nav to videohelp.
It helped me get past a nasty blockage to Wachovia (bank) once. -

I might have to do some work -
THe horror. I often have nightmares about my employer blocking external web access. They've done it before, when Yahoo mail generated a most unfortunate string of ascii in the URL
But a day later and it was cleared up.
But permanently cut off? -

blocking needs to be done sometimes though.
i work for a public hospital and these are the top three sites visited.
www.realestate.com.au
www.ebay.com
cis.org.au
now the top two out rank the third site by quite a margin.
its a pity then that the third site is our internal pathology and radiology results site, this should be first if people were actually doing there work.
realestate purchases and bidding on ebay should be done out of hours. im not paying for you to win your auction during work hours.

I work around a lot of real estate, so that first one is pretty common here.

I hate Web Marshall. Still it is easy to bypass. Grab
a free proxy server and you are set unless they
have blocked 80 & 8080. If they have blocked them
then you have to get a port scanner to find out
what ports are free. -
Are you on broadband at home?
Setup some remote session software to use an open port at work to connect to your home puter and away you go...
Something I should of done a few months back -
Hooray!!!
A friendly word with the IT admin (who is apparently NOT the Webmarshall admin, thats the company 'security' manager), and videohelp.com is unblocked. Other sites are still blocked, but at least I can read and post here now.
As for ways round Webmarshall. It seems the only open port is the one used for SSH (437 I think). A colleague has set up a secure proxy on his home machine and tunnels trhough SSH to that. He obviously does not want to get caught so won't tell anyone the IP address etc but is willing to help others set up a similiar system.
SO maybe soon...
