I came across this today and thought it sounds like a good way to use that new GMail account, since I can't fill it up with e-mail! 1GB of free online storage sounds like a great idea, so there is this small app that will let you do it.
From this website - http://www.viksoe.dk/code/gmail.htm - you can download it and use it in Windows Explorer. Anyone gives it a try, post back and tell what you think of it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GMail Drive is a Shell Namespace Extension that creates a virtual filesystem around your Google GMail account, allowing you to use GMail as a storage medium.
GMail Drive creates a virtual filesystem on top of your Google GMail account and enables you to save and retrieve files stored on your GMail account directly from inside Windows Explorer. GMail Drive literally adds a new drive to your computer under the My Computer folder, where you can create new folders, copy and drag'n'drop files to.
Ever since Google started to offer users a GMail e-mail account, which includes storage space of a 1000 megabytes, you have had plenty of storage space but not a lot to fill it up with. With GMail Drive you can easily copy files to your GMail account and retrieve them again.

how long will it be before google shuts the door on this?
-
Just out of curiosity couldn't you just e-mail yourself the file and not delete it from the server?

Correct me if I'm wrong but you would have to load this software on each machine where you wanted to access these files?
Or is it just for the upload tool and then the regular browser to access them?
EDIT.... Just a browser needed to access the files once uploaded ..... Sweet program -
It works like an actual drive, it will even show up in "My Computer". :P The word is spreading way to quickly, hopefully they don't lower their limits because some asses are abusing their accounts.

This is dumb. You still cannot have files over 10MB so what makes this better from just emailing yourself a file???

Still looks like it's easier than emailing.

Is there any chance that Google would terminate my account or something if I decided to use this? It sounds like a nice idea but I don't want to risk my account over it.
-
Not unless there's something in the TOS about it. If not, there's nothing to worry about, since, like someone said, this is similar to e-mailing something to yourself.
And you can probably get another invite from someone if it did happen, then just don't do it again. Haven't heard as yet about anyone's account being terminated because of this. (Doesn't mean it can't happen, tho)Ethernet (n): something used to catch the etherbunny -
I'm getting failures now copying files over to my Gmail Account... Anyone else?
-
I disabled it when I was having trouble with my firewire CF reader. Turned out the Gmail drive wasn't the culprit, but I haven't reactivated it yet.

I hope you guys have the stuff you're uploading on backup elsewhere.
I remember losing all kinds of files from those Space storage sites like SpaceHog, Driveway, MySpace, etc.
Whenever they feel like closing down - you lose everything.
I'd only use it for file-sharing purposes.
