im trying to get into the liteon site so i can update the firmware inside my dvd recorder.
it asks me for my s/n number when i try to download the new software............i enter the s/n but it says its not vaild, can someone tell me whats wrong please

i downloaded a zip file the other day with my serical number on the liteon site but i would like to double check its the correct version before i try to update the software.

when i downloaded the zip from the website would it change the serical number because now the serical number dont seem to work on there website??

im hoping someone can help, i have only had my machine about a week.

If it is one of the ILO machine you bought from Walmart you should try downloading the firmware update from the ILO site:

im in the u.k it was brought from a dealer in the u.k via mailorder, ive asked them why the serical number isnt taken on the liteon website, but the mailorder place wont help, they tell me to contact liteon themselfs,ive emailed liteon twice but no reply.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I wonder if they allocate firmware update distribution by serial number. So if it's been downloaded once before the second download could be from a bogus owner.

What is your model number? Is it a PAL machine for the European market? (forgive me for asking the obvious). Sometimes mail order sells merchandise not fully supported by the OEM because it bypasses the regular distribution channel. For instance, one can buy an electronic item in Hong Kong that is not directly imported and is would be a lot cheaper but good luck if you want any service from the local distributor or company service center.
I have good experience with several LiteOn products. I wonder if you downloaded the firmware from a LiteOn site serving your market as the sites could be different: Europe, U.S., Taiwan, etc.

the model is a 5005b which is the europe model(pal model)

i downloaded a file on the liteon site with my serial number but now when i enter it on there again it says its not vaild.

the dvd machine was made in jan 2004, im wondering if its a good idea to update the software as that software is not too far away from being a year old.


i think the top part of your post is most likely, i have the downloaded file it is called LNEB2163.D11.zip is that the lastest software for the liteon 5005 b model please??

I am afraid you have to get back to LiteOn for help, since I am not an owner of this product ant therefore could not check out whether the firmware is the latest or not. I read the specs and it seems to be a fine machine. It supports both plus and minus DVDR/RW, as well as CDR/RW.
The last spec is handy as you can record SVCD or VCD off it.
