"some dvd players can play data mpg files with hacked firmwares...but it is always best to burn as vcd to be sure that it works."
ok I was just interested if my dvd player could do this and how I could find a firmware hack or patch for it?
the only ones I found were for computer dvd-roms not stand alone players,
    I have a sanyo, dwm-370,
can you help me with this?
I want to test the limits of my player and make it region-free, and to be able to play pal and ntsc, not just ntsc video
    thanks,

I know that one version of the Apex line, I believe the AD500a can do this without any modification. You just burn either a dat or an mpg to a disk and it reads it as an mp3 disk, but if you select the file it just plays it like a vcd.

Even with with hacked firmwares and whatnot, there arent many dvd players this is going to work with.
