Anyone seen Battle Royal?

My interest in seeing this movie is super high, but the movie has not and will not be released in the States.

Is the movie good? Is it worth Importing?

It was a big hit in Japan, now they have part 2. It's just kids running around on an island shooting each other...kinda like a twisted version of "Lord of the Flys" mixed in with survivors...its cool. It got a lot of hype in Japan because the director was never known for this type of movie and a lot of people thought it was too violent and senseless...which made more people go out and watch it.

Its a very good movie, disturbing, violent and yet funny at times. I'm a Takeshi fan anyway, but I would recommend this one anyway. Battle Royale 2 is a bit shit really, simply cashed in on the sucess of the first and it has a very heavy anti US bias.

I picked up a PAL copy when I was in London... it was okay, but didn't live up to the buildup from friends who had seen it.

worth a rental or borrow, but not worth spending the cash to track down an import copy.

You can rent it online at greencine.com and it is a us version of the movie with subtitles.

It was made for a short time, and greencine is good for some rare stuff. If you really want to see it you could sign up with them for a month providing its still there.

its basicly netflix with some harder to find stuff, slower though because there is only one location.

I think it was released here in the UK eventually, but I have a region 3 Jap import. Not a bad movie. (Only bought it because I love Takeshi).

That movie was okay. I would have been more pleased had it been more brutal. Yes, more brutal. I'm sorry but when someone gets shot they are going down, they're not going to jump up and get a few rounds off themselves. If the director was going for stark horror in the situation he should have had large exit wounds, exploding clouds of pink brain matter, and blood spraying everywhere from deep cuts to arteries. Those events were the exception to the melodrama rule.

I did like the plot though, as sick as it was. I heard the sequel has more to do with "fighting the man" instead of the student-vs-student thing from the first.
