I remember I bought it a long time ago and even then it was like $30 or something. I was so excited cause this was the first time I had seen 3D acceleration. And it sure was great. Still have the card in another computer in another part of the state. Have an urge to put it in my current computer and play some ULTIM@TE Race. Of course, even my shitty built in SiS onboard video is probably faster than the PowerVR PCX2. But man, those days were sweet.

Had one! Certainly brings back some memories of the days when Matrox actually had a respectable 3D presence. Ultimate Racer w/ the PowerVR, was, well ... The Ultimate!!
Used it right up until I could afford a VooDoo II card. Tried to re-install the Matrox a few years ago to see what a PC with "horsepower" would do, but the m3d and XP produced no joy !! -

I used to have one of em too - bloody ages ago it was. Nice little card though, it was in my old pentium 75 i think.

Matrox may not be large in the Personal Computer world but in the workplace they are huge. I have 4 screens on my pc at work all powered by a matrox. 90% of all brokers/dealers use a matrox card. When I'm in on Monday I will find out what it is.

Not sure why they are just very popular in the work place for multi screened pc's
My pc has a Matrox Millenium -
I think that they were the first cards to offer multi-screen support and were bought up by offices then. Now even though many video cards support this feature, a lot of computers still have Matrox's.

very popular for media creation and editing also .. very very good color, quality and stabilty ..
they make a lot of specialized cards .... matrox is, just like alias, softimage, ati and other animation companies are all out of that high end canadian graphic/content community ..
mostly (except for ati and alias) based in Montréal"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
I worked for a summer as a Quality Audit Inspector for IEC in Newark, NY (Yes, there's a Newark in NY too). They used to build Matrox boards there and I would inspect about 400 boards a day. I inspected 1 board for every lot of 100-150 produced. That was when Matrox was on top of the game in the mid 90's. I also inspected US Robotics 14.3 modems, Compaq motherboards, and Symbol laser scanner boards. I also did auditing on boards for NASA projects. We'd be given specs and the parts. Put them on the machines and use NASA testing equipment, the whole time, not knowing what the funtion of the item being created was used for. We'd use loose terminology for identifying things. "there's solder balls all around BP-2." (BP-2 = black part labeled #2 on spec sheet). The test screens would show elaborate colors and numbers. If the screen was red when it was supposed to be green, or if a number was anything other than 35, 47, 92, or 12 the board was scrapped. Everyone joked that we were making boards that allow porn channels to feed into the space shuttle.

Anyone use a colorgraphics card? I used a 4 monitor Evolution card that was wicked cool. the 4 monitors were in 2x2 formation so they can be used like one giant monitor, show independent information, or lined up to be a stretched widescreen. 4 20" monitors make an excellent 40" screen. and it keeps a good resolution.
