got ours today; recorded 1 tv program; quality isn't great; i'm seeing what sure looks like skipped frames and there is some degradation of quality. any ideas?one quick note: this was in SP; are my expectations too high for this mode?

first question to ask is what brand of media are you using?
is it a no-name brand?
I've used made-in-Japan Fuji DVD-R and made-in-Singapore Fuji DVD-RW
with excellent results. -
Degradation should be slight if at all. If it's a high quality source there will be a little degredation, if it's a poor quality input source it should actually look better on the recording. Like broadway mentioned, there are many brands of inferior media out there.
