  1. This program doesn't allow me to use TMPG encoder to make a mpeg 2 video. I select DVD as the final product and it says I need to install the memories mpeg2 plugin. I did that with the evaluation and when I went to options and chose TMPG and hit start a window popped up saying that the memories plugin was an evaluation and would be encoded with that wording.

Do I have to purchase this memories mpeg2 plug. Can I not use the TMPG encoder I have instead? It certianly doesn't appear that way. I will look at Proshow before I put out money for an encoder just to make a DVD slideshow.

    Cheers.

  2. you shouldn't have to..did you configure it to tell it where to find your copy of tmpgenc? It's in the advanced settings..

fwiw, the mot encoder does a really nice job for the $15...

  3. Heres a free solution:

    Slideshow4DVD

If your photos all have the same size - this should be easy pie.

Just change the definitions to fit your needs, save the code as a text file with a .avs ending and render it with freeenc or nuenc or quenc(all free).

This way you can get a straight from imagesequence to mpeg dvd slideshow - for free.

  4. I've made the changes in the advanced part but they just won't stick. In configure I choose DVD from the pulldown and set a DVD TMPG template but it won't stick-it keeps going back to VCD. I still can't choose the DVD button at the top on the main burn page, it asks for the mpeg2 plugin.

    Any suggestions?

You have to purchase the MPEG2 PLUGIN to have the DVD features. Proshow Gold's encoder I found has some playback problems. I suggest you purchase the MPEG2 PLUGIN from MEMORIES ON TV which is reasonably priced.

I was actually pretty disappointed with MoT's mpeg2 output, compared to tmpgenc's output. It gave me grief as well, the first time. Eventually I got it working, but I can't remember if I did something special or not.

  7. for me for photos, the mot plugin works pretty well...haven't used it on video before though..but on pics, it looks nice - output is flicker free and transitions are good

just a thought as an alternative, I have used Slide Show Movie Maker (free last time I checked...) with much success.

It saves your "slideshow" as an AVI, which can be loaded into TMPGenc to be encoded to DVD MPEG2 (extra step there, but results have been quite good for me...)
    just a thought

  9. Once you install the MOTV MPEG plug-in, you can choose to use the MOTV encoder or TMPGenc encoder. The choice is on the Advanced Settings tab of "Burn." Once I choose the box with the path to TMPGenc, it "sticks" until I change it again.

  10. Okay, I think I will just move on from this program. I read in another post from the Memories tech people that their mpeg2 must be installed as it does other things needed to create a DVD even if you use TMPG.

Is this true? As it stands now, I have both the evaluation Memories program and mpeg2 plug installed and even when I choose TMPG encoder in the advanced settings, it encodes in TMPG yet the "evalation copy" text appears, obviously from the Memories plug.

So in the end, TMPG can be used if you purchase the Memories mpeg2 plug (which will remove the text in the file). You can't just purchase the program and use the TMPG encoder to create a DVD mpeg2 file - is this accurate? Purchasing just the program only allows you to create a VCD?

  11. hey tommy99 - did you email their tech support - they have been pretty quick in the past in responding to questions

  12. I never thought of that, was under the impression that most places only take inquires if you purchase their product.

  13. actually they may be very willing to help if there's money on the table (e.g. if you are thinking about purchasing)
