I got a lot of different feedback yesteday regarding how to burn a movie to a CD-R using my CD BURNER. I have already downloaded DVDx software. I was then told to use Decrypter.
Someone even mentioned that I was wasting my time if I did not have a DVD Burner. I do not have a DVD Burner. Do I continue with DVDx and Decrypter? The only problem with DVDx was that I did not show VIDEO_TS in My Computer.
I am simply seeking to burn the movie with my CD-WRITER and play it in my DVD player.
Thanks

Before I got a DVD burner, I used DVD2SVCD with good success. Works best using 2 CDs. If your DVD player can play them, this may be the easiest route.
It takes a while to re encode, but the results were always good. Never had to use other programs. Only extra you need is an encoder program. You might give it a try, it's freeware. -
If your goal is simply to watch the movie, why not just put the dvd in your player?
I do not understand why you would want to watch something that is inferior to a dvd and you have to get up in the middle of the movie to switch discs.
I slowly walk away from thread. -
Hello jarod1001
You do not need a DVD burner to burn vcds or svcds, only a cd burner. DVDx only encodes to vcd, svcd, or avi, not DVD. Open DVDx and choose file>open ifo. Then navigate to the VIDEO_TS file you ripped with DVD decrypter and choose the ifo file. Make sure that the file you ripped with decrypter is a VIDEO_TS file and not an ISO file. Let us know how you make out.It doesn't matter who you vote for. The government always gets in. -

I am having the same problem.... I do not see a VIDEO_TS folder. Is this the correct method to copy a movie to CD-R?
Thanks -
When you copied the files using DVD Decrypter did you maintain your VIDEO_TS folder? Or did your name it another thing??
If yes, then just put all your VOBs and IFOs inside a folder named VIDEO_TS, and you should be ready to use DVDx."Adopt, adapt and improve!" -
Heres the problem. When I open DVD decrypter and click Mode File F, nothing happens. So, in essence, I have not been able to copy or rip anything. The same thing applies with DVDx, when I choose file open IFO, there is not a video_ts folder there.
Thanks again... -
Do you have a dvd-rom drive?
If you do, then when you open the movie in decrypter, you will see the files. -
Hello,
The movies are in a folder called video_ts (it will be one of two main folders, the other is audio_ts). If you don't have that folder than it is not a real dvd.

For example,
If you start up decrypter and have the disc in the drive, you will automatically see the files.
You should see vob, ifo, and bup files.
That is if you have decrypter in file mode. -
Thanks, but nothing has worked. We may all be on a different page. Who knows? I do have a CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive. It is a 60 GB Ultra DMA hard drive.
One last question: Is it possible to record or burn a movie from your harddrive to an 80min/700MB CD-R? Next, I would like to play the CD-R in my DVD player, and then watch it via TV. I have heard that all you will need to do this is MPEG-4 software. Is that true?
You have all been very instrumental in assisting me, but maybe, like I said.... we are all on a different page.
Thanks, again -
You could burn to cd using either videocd or supervideocd formats.
Videocd is a little better in quality than vhs.
Supervideocd is right below dvd quality wise.
With videocd, you can put about 80 minutes worth of video and audio on one cd.
With supervideo, that figure falls to about 50 minutes worth.
There are offshoots, but I do not want to get too far ahead of you.
Depending on what player you have, it may play both or neither formats. -
Hello,
You could use another tool besides dvd decrypter and dvdx.
Here is a list of dvd rippers that encode to vcd/svcd/avi:

dvd2svcd gets a lot of good reviews here.
Best of luck

Righto ...... I'm giving this one more shot ....
jarod1001, do exactly what I say. EXACTLY. Click where I tell you to click. Follow these instructions BY THE LETTER. If you have any issues, tell me exactly which number part you are having difficulty with.
1. Put DVD in your DVD ROM Drive.
2. Open DVD Decrypter. If it is your first time running DVD Decrypter and a separate log window opens, feel free to close it.
3. Go to the Mode menu and confirm that File is ticked. This should be the mode it starts in by default anyway but it doesn’t hurt to confirm.
After you have switched to File Mode, the window will now look like this:
4. If you have more than 1 DVD drive, you can select the source drive using the dropdown box in the source section. If you only have 1 DVD ROM Drive then it should be selected there automatically.
5. The destination is the folder on your hard drive that you want to save the files to. You can change this if you wish by clicking this button
By default, all files in the right pane will be highlighted blue. If you want to rip the entire disc, leave it this way.
6. Once you have made your selections, click the Start button:
Ripping will begin. The window will look like this:
This screen gives you an ongoing summary of the progress of ripping. The files in the right pane are files yet to be ripped. It also tells you your instantaneous ripping speed (the number in brackets to the right of Read Rate).
You are done when you see this box:
It really really is this simple. Follow these instructions to the letter and you can't go wrong. If in doubt, Google it. -
Beautiful post Jimm. You're a patient man
I hope he follows the instructions after all that work you did

Nice work
I also got a good laugh from that "How not to post" link. I remember when you put that up. I was a wet behind the ears mod and he made my job so easy with that one -
jimmalenko - NEVER approach jarod1001 thinking "This will only take 5 minutes".

Just follow the instructions provided by many users in these posts and you should do fine.

The only problem with DVDx was that I did not show VIDEO_TS in My Computer.
I think I just got that!!!!!
Don't look for a video_ts folder in "MY computer" in your file explorer.
In DVDx under the file menu, open ifo and then search for your E drive. When you find it you will see the video_ts folder. Click on That and then it will open the ifo file of the dvd as long as you put a dvd movie in your dvd drive.
Don't jump from program to program. As new user I suggest you stay with dvdx since it will make the vcd for you. Like I said in another thread you started, after dvdx has made your videocd you will then need a program like Nero to write it to cd.
Don't start new threads all the time. It's harder to follow your problem and you will get more conflicting information. When people answer they may not realize that you are new and that just naming a bunch of tools may just confuse you.
