As soon as the next two are delivered I'll be up to 11!!! *lol*
JVC HR-S9900
Mitsubishi HS-U781
Mitsubishi HS-U746
Panasonic PV-VS4820
Panasonic PV-VS4821
Sony SLV-585HF
Sony SLV-740HF
Panasonic PV-V4611
Zenith XBV243 (VCR/DVD Combo)
Mitsubishi HS-338UR (mono)
Mitsubishi HS-317UR (mono)
Oops! Forgot about the VCR built into my 15 inch Curtiss-Mathis TV (although the VCR hasn't worked too well since my son got orange juice in it when he was 4!)
I think I'm going to have to start selling on eBay rather than just buying!
BTW...so far, the Panasonic PV-VS4820 actually provides the best detail when capturing std VHS tapes. The JVC is a close second, but of course is the BEST for old tapes in poor condition! I'm still waiting on delivery of the Mitsubishi HS-U746 and Panasonic PV-VS4821, so I'll see where they rank soon.
Only two brands that I'm interested in that are still left to check out...Toshiba and Sharp!![]()

Hello,
I have 5 vcrs. 3 mono, 1 eats tapes, and 2 are stereo. I use a very good 4 head hifi stereo Magnavox to transfer to my wintv pvr250 card. I like my results. I've had more but got rid of some. I even had a Beta that we eventually got rid of a few years ago. Long live the VCR!!!!
Kevin
P.S. I love DVD but VCR will never die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Three, all lying unused. I have a Nicam Sony that I use to capture VHS occasionally, and my mother uses the JVC downstairs. I'll be getting a LiteOn DVD recorder shortly and do away with VHS once and for all.

Kevin
P.S. How many videotapes does everyone have?
I'm sure I have 200 or so, that may be a little bit high but I've got a tonDonatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
I have pretty close to 300 VHS tapes. As soon as I get everything the way I want it...I'm going to convert a tape a night for a year!

I only have two left: a Sony -740HF and a Sony -920HF. And they'll be gone a few weeks time, too.
I will be VCR free! -
OK, OK, I might not have the most (2 SVHS, 2Hi8, 2 DVD-r, 1 ULT TV). But anyone else have them ALL hooked into ONE system? I have them all connected via a Sony routing matrix, with two direct feeds to both TV's in the viewing room, and all have their own dedicated modulator channel on the the house antenna system.

Presently, 3 VHS decks that work (now unused except when needed). About 500 tapes, some are 25 years old, I haven't tried playing those in years.
5 DVD players. all work (Apex-2, Philips, GE and Initial portable.
6 PC's, that work, 3 with DVR capability and DVD burners. All have CD burners for SVCD or VCD's.

2 SVHS, 2 VHS, 1 Beta Hi-Fi, 1 hi-band 8mm, 2 VHS camcorders. That's for tape at present depending on what projects I may be working on. I still have other working decks that I currently do not use. I've been taping shows since the late 70s so you amass quite a collection of hardware in that time...

3. used to have 4. that one was an old JVC from the 1980s...HUGE! i got scared though...i probed the temperature on that thing and it was going to 150F, even after cleaning the whole thing inside for dust. rather than risk my house burning down (grr...BETA almost killed me in the process), i threw it away. good ol'dumpster.
the 3 i have:
1 is from a friend, a symphonic. horrible! just horrible! mono.
1 is magnavox. its ok. had it since 1994. was eating tapes, then i greased every movable thing inside. now it works fine. mono.
1 is my BEAUTIFUL panasonic! i still have the little "proud to be a sponsor of the 1996 olympic team" tag on the top of it. haha. its from 1996, paid $250 back then. Hi-Fi stereo, auto-tracking (unlike my other ones!). been repaired once in 1998, and its ran trouble free for 6 years. thats the one i use whenever i capture to my PC -

Somewhere in 'deep' storage we still have a Sony ED-Beta machine. We think. I haven't actually seen it in four years, but I think it's still there...

only one vhs here..but from years of abuse and expirementation, doesnt look like a vhs anymore
, with circuit boards hanging from the case( add in circuits) and tangled wires for external switches/buttons, extra ir receivers etc...it still works!
and im even planning to upgrade it to play dvds -

Counting the 2 Portables I bought with a camcorder at a sale this last weekend I am up to at least 6 VHS and 2 Betas (not working well though)
But hey I do Have 2 DVD palyers too!
Long live the VCR!!
Oh yea, and does the VCR built into the VHS camcorder count, if so add another VHS -
@ overloaded_ide -- I'd about forgotten about this thread. Have to add 3 more:
Toshiba M-735
Toshiba M-784
Admiral JSJ20455
And if you count my Panasonic VHS-C Camcorder, one more.

1. Upstairs bedroom: Mitsubishi vhs hifi (for viewing)
2. Living room: Panasonic VHS hifi (for viewing, although this workhorse has an incredible picture and records very well. I also like the remote on this one the best)
The rest are downstairs in computer/home theater room
3. Philips VHS hifi (for viewing and also the tuner for the big screen, decent remote, but not as good as the Panasonic).
4. JVC SVHS hifi (relatively low end, used only for capturing, but doesn't get used much anymore. I should sell it. I hate the remote).
5. JVC SVHS hifi with TBC (my main capturing VCR. This one is probably my best VCR in terms of picture quality).
6. Sony VHS hifi PAL (for all my PAL captures).
7. We are not counting cam-corders are we?
Looks like I lose. 11 is the record so far. But I can do a lot with what I have.

And if you count my Panasonic VHS-C Camcorder, one more7. We are not counting cam-corders are we?
Ok, I forgot the kids VHS-C camcorder here
Doesn't play comercail tapes, does it count?
I did count 2 VCRs I got last weekend with a camcorder, but they are seperate stand alone portable VHS VCRs that the camera connects to. One has a docking station and looks like a normal settop when docked. The other is in a neat Leather case and has external power supply. Either will use a large battery or external power.
Also one actual VHS camcorder of the normal tape type. It will work as a normal VCR for play record also with inputs.
2 Betas are a VCR, though not VHS. They do work, but not well, not using them now because I don't want to ruin the tapes and the quality is not good enough to get decent captures till I fix them.
I geuss if VHS ever truley dies I might be happy after all when thinking of the Betas
WHat I mean is Beta for most people is totally dead, and man did I score the tapes for those!! I still have new unopened blank beta tapes to record on. I have bought like boxes of 50-100 betas tapes for $20. Cleared out a rental store once of Beta's too really cheap!!!
The only problem was back then I had no way to copy the tapes to other sources. I didn't have Macremoval stuff, and PC stuff like we have now did not exist in the home markets at all!!
So now I have 100's of unusable beta's of some good movies I can't use because my players don't work well. (when stored they were working good, not sure now)
But I am ready when/if VHS hits the same end as beta's did
OT
Beta is a perfect example why copy protections SHOULD BE OUTLAWED!
Here I own 100's of comercail movies on beta tapes and have the LEGAL RIGHT to watch them any time I want. BUT can I, no because I can't find a good beta player on the market now for a reasonable price anywhere!!! Had the tapes NOT been protected I would have VHS backups, AND my Beta players would still be working since I would have used them far less!!
COPY PROTECTECTIONS HAVE VIOLATED MY RIGHTS!!!! And also caused the needless destruction of valuable irreplaceable equipment due to needless over use! I have lost thousands of dollars worth of movies now at normal replacement prices, and some cannot even be replaced for any price becuase they are not on VHS or DVD!!
I wonder if I have grounds for a law suit there
Any lawers out there want to file this case for a percentage of the winings for me?? -
BTW...I'll be up to 14 in a day or two...I thnik my wife is about to skin me alive. Time to start selling rather than buying...

I have more :>
about 40 dead VCRs in my shed, and 1 working VCR in every room with tv (thats every bedroom + tv.room + basement :P)
oh wait, I have few more dead or undead VCRs in my workroom too hehe :>
Im sure only some repair shop or store will have more :P
edit:
Just check - I forgot I threw away many of'em year ago, I have only 17 dead ones in my shed :/ -
2 TV-VCR combos(they were gifts) 3 stand alone VCRs (1 I just smoked, 1 has a tape loading problem) The best is an old old Zenith that just wont die and weighs a ton
I just have reinstalled AOL and lost all of my favorite site list I had some good links for repairs and parts. I will be looking for these places againIS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT? -
I only have 3.
Phillips cheapy - junk.
Quasar 4head with flying erase head(made in 1984) = Has very good quality, a lot better then any cheap VCR being made today. Great tape transport mechanism. Feeds in tapes slowly, compared to junky clang-clang of today's machines. (The built-in calendar expired in 2001. Can't set date to greater than 2001. LOL.) But it still works great.
Quasar TV's and VCR's were the best back in the 80's!
JVC HR-S9911U-Bought it for converting my family VHS home recordings. Great picture via s-video output. Works great with my ADVC-300.
I think the VCR will live longer, with D-VHS. It gives you replaceable, recordable media, where you can record 20-30+ hours of good quality on one tape! I've seen them in action, and the picture still looks great on slow recording speed. -
Lets see ---- 9 VHS recorders scattered around the house(all working) The one I use for copying tape to DVD is an old(1980?) Panasonic portable that is Hi-Fi stereo, 6 head, direct drive motors(no gears or belts), and even has a 10 pin camera input(still have the Canon color camera). 1 VHS camcorder, 1 Time lapse recorder, 1 DV camcorder, 2 DVRs(a 4 channel and a 16 channel), 5 DVD players, 1 DVD recorder(standalone) and 6 computers all with DVD players and two with DVD R/Ws. Now I just need time to start on converting all the VHS tapes we have. I'm guessing around 350 scattered around the house.
