  1. I live in Ontario Canada and I want to convert some of my vcr recordings (family stuff) to DVD and also share them with my family (in-laws) in England, I know Canada uses NTSC and England uses PAL what else do I need to do to convert for English use and should I use any particular programme to achieve good end results.
    Thanks in Advance

Just author it as a normal NTSD DVD - your relatives here should be able to watch it on a PAL system, no problem.

  3. there are some very complicated solutions to this regularly posed question, in order of simplicity"-

1: Burn them as ntsc, a very large percentage of dvd players in the UK convert ntsc readilly.

2: Get one of these hitch your vhs to it,make sure the menu option on the dvd recorder is set to pal as the format(London Drugs are selling an identical lookingmachine.

3: Capture the tapes to your computer and use tmpcenc/procider express to convert the avi file and make nice menus with tmpg author.

4: Capture them in ntsc and send the dvd disks to me and i'll convert them for you.

We will be in Ontario in November,Orillia and Toronto!

I lived in the UK for many years and have all the PAL/NTSC experience you could wish for.

oh - procoder express does a bang up great job of converting ntsc to pal .. just select the OPPOSITE field order as the source (seems to work better) .. procoder will get the final field order correct and will offset the top line.
