  1. all right, on playback of the original file, the audio is fine but after I encode it to dvd/vob files it goes out of synch at a certain point in the movie. The audio plays quicker than the video. How do I fix this?

{edit] Oh yeah, when it does go out of synch, it goes all pixely for a second and then changes back but with the audio out of synch

Sounds like dropped frames or a corrupted file if you're seeing the point at which it goes out of sync.

    What is the source?

Ive fixed that kinda problem a few times, what you have to do is extract the audio and use an audio editor such as goldwave and insert a few seconds of audio right after the part where the frames lose sync, you will have to estimate how much time is needed.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

  4. the source is an avi file

I did a direct stream copy of the film in virtualdub, taking a bit of seconds off the end of it too, and I re-encoded the part where it goes out of snych, came out fine, no snych problems from what I could tell.
