Going back and forth on internal vs. external DVD burner. Currently have a Dell Dimension 8200 with both DVD-ROM & CD-R drives. Roxio software is what I have used to create audio CD's. I have used nothing special other than windows XP itself to "drag & drop" data files to CDs.

I'm looking for any input on what to expect if I swap the CD burner for a DVD burner. Some questions I can think of include:

Will I lose windows drag & drop file burning capability?

If software bundled with a DVD burner is not Roxio (such as Nero, Ulead, etc), will I need to uninstall Roxio to prevent conflicts?

If I pick up an OEM drive that does not have software, is it a reasonably safe bet that the Roxio software I have will handle it?

Any other considerations related to swapping a CDR for DVDR would be appreciated.

I've got an older Dimension 4500, with Roxio, NO Nero. Only because I have heard from more than a few sources that Roxio and Nero on the same O/S is going to cause conflicts.
I have B's Recorder Gold and it works fine with Drag and Drop.

Windows XP drag and drop should work the same for a DVD burner as it does for a CD burner, just with added DVD functionality. Most people seem to prefer Nero over Roxio for other burning tasks.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

Thanks for the input from you both. I'm just gonna pull the trigger, get a drive, and see what happens!
