If I put VCD and SVCD files on a DVD will it play in a DVD player like a VCD in a DVD player. I am just wondering I have alot of VCD/SVCD files on my PC and I just got a DVD burner and wanted to see if it works.
If I posted this in the wrong forum I apologize, I am new.
Thanks
Kevin

So I just cannot copy the files to a DVD like I would with a CD. If its a matter of video quiality and stuff like that its no big deal to dump them on a disc.

Take a look at the specs for DVD and SVCD to the left. DVD is 720 x 480 and a SVCD is 480 x 480. Audio rate is 48Khz compared to a SVCD of 44Khz. DVDs are authored, SVCD uses a different format.
All that said, yes, you can put SVCD or VCD files on a DVD. There are several ways to do it. If you look also to the left under 'Convert' you should find a few methods. As long as you make them compatible to the DVD specification, they should work fine.
I use SVCD2DVD as it's one of the easier methods.
EDIT: You could also burn the mpeg files directly onto a DVD as a data file and some players can read these. But converting and authoring will result in a DVD that most any of the newer players can play. -
