  1. Hello. Im extremely new at this so Im really lost.

I took .vob files from a dvd that has music videos on it. Im having a hard time converting the .vob files to anything playable on my computer. I looked up user guides and what not and got extremely lost in the explanations and software descriptions. So, I tried out a program called ImToo Dvd Ripper and got an .iso file somehow out of the entire dvd. I tried opening the .iso file with WinRAR and I got 6 .vob files, 2 dvd navigation files, and 2 .bup files in the Video_TS folder. There was nothing in the Audio_TS folder. And 1 other file called 'default.css'

Now heres where I got lost again.

I tried converting the .vob files in the Video_TS folder to divx (or something) using ImToo Dvd. It asked what codec to use, so I selected Divx 5.2.0. Multiple problems came up here. A .vob file was converted to a low quality 3xx by 2xx resolution. When I manually doubled that in the output prefferences, the quality looked exactly the same, only doubled. Another problem is that the videos were messed up in terms of angles. The video I wanted would play for 3 seconds, then some alternate angle/commentary deal would pop up for 2 seconds, then the video, angle, video, etc etc.

Theres got to be an easier way to convert this all smoothly and in decent visual quality to a medium that my computer can play whether divx, avi, mpeg... Anything

I have VirtualDubMod, ImToo Dvd Ripper, and TMPGEnc. Can I do anything with them?

    Please help!

  2. What are you trying to accomplish with all these tools? It's like going around three sides of a block clockwise when you could just go down one side counter-clockwise

Any software player that can play authored DVDs (commercial movies and home movies) will also read VOB files because you author a DVD with (drumroll, please) VOB files!

I use PowerDVD (my primary choice) and WMP (last resort) as my software players.

  3. Problem is that PowerDvd and WMP and all that stuff will treat the .vob files as a dvd. Meaning that I can click on the main menu .vob file and navigate them like a dvd. Well, I dont want a 4gb folder on my comp when all I want are 4 videos. Plus the audio for these files are very low, causing me to raise the level of my speakers past my settings for my comp (in essence, someone instant messages me or a window pops up its gonna be very, very loud)

How do I take a .vob file and convert that into something I can watch with a media program that wont treat it as a dvd? When I try opening those .vob files of single videos I just get a black screen with notes at the bottom of the player saying "Playing - Dvd Menu" except for in PowerDvd, which I dont want to use.

    Load your vobs into Dvd2avi
    Create a project file (.d2v) - and
convert/extract audio to wav file (done at same time.)

    Load .d2v project into TMPGenc
Choose Template from Wizard - Dvd - Svcd - vcd etc
    Encode to .mpg2, mpg etc

Play on computer or burn to disk with Nero.

  5. Quickest way......select with dvdshrink the videos and stuff you want from the dvd in the re-author modus and hit backup.
when this is done ,again you will have a dvd video_ts folder and then with canopus procoder or any other edit program that will process .vob files select the vob files and convert them to anything you like..
btw.... also a good proggie and free is xmpeg, but if you can get your hands on procoder2 that's def.the way to go cause that converts about anything into anything else ....also swf files!

  6. If you want it in AVI format you can't go wrong with AutoGK. It is extremely simple and user-friendly.

  7. I tried using that canopus procoder2, but the result convert is in terrible quality. Im having trouble figuring out how I can change the settings for a higher quality video. I think the problem is I dont know what type of video to select as a convert. I tried a wma, but that was crap. It wont let me convert to mpeg. avi is junk. What the hell?

Get the tools (instead of nero re-encode , just get a bitrate calc)
follow my steps , and be happy
