Can we please keep the Reported Posts to actual REAL issues, and stop with the "signature is too long" or "I don't like his avatar" reports?

Not necessarily aimed all at Yoda, but it's like the final straw. It's just more proof of the continuing pussification that's creeping in.

Like people worrying about hurting warez-monkeys' feelings, so they tell them how to "get around" the rules

I'm not terribly crazy about how you put that. Would you mind toning it down a bit?

    Thanksomuch.

    Hello,

Jeesh, I was just trying to help out. It makes the posts really long if everybody had there signature line 5 or 6 lines long. Especially for those on dial up. It was brought up awhile ago about sig pic sizes (400x60) or three lines of text. I'm just helping out.

The report thread is for reporting violations of the AUP. If a signature is too long and violates the rules, it should be reported. There's a reason why there is a rule for the max. length of sig, font size, sig image size, etc.

If an avatar is offensive, it violates the rules. Because it does, it should be reported in the report thread.

I don't see how reporting a rules violation is being "a pussy".

When we get a report that turns out to not be a real violation, we put a little note to that effect in the report post. It doesn't hurt to report something that might or might not be a violation. It's something a mod needs to make a ruling on. That's why the thread was started, and I'll tell you, that report thread is extremely useful. Many times a thread or post will appear and we can't be everywhere ..all the time. Members can keep an eye out for things the mods aren't aware of, and the system works great.

The use of the report thread shouldn't be discouraged.

I would like to point out in 3000 posts I have never once posted in the "nark" forum.

I know the Report thread is useful, but people don't need to be so anal about it.

Who is it really hurting when someone has 4 lines in their sig? Dial-up isn't impacted that much with a few bits. And is that fair when someone is singled out? Maybe there sould be a simple script put in where it automatially limits the sig. Just as there's an automatic avatar size limit and there's an automatic member status limit.
Unless the narcs want to go through the whole membership roster and weed out all the sig and avatar violators, it does seem pussy that they only narc the ones that post in their thread. If they're going to be so vigilant, go all the way and research such "offenders".

While it may not hurt to make a report, it's still a red flag on the person being reported.

Sometimes the spirit of the rule needs to be followed, rather than the letter. No, I'm not discouraging using the Report thread completely, but rather suggesting to some to "reel it in" (don't be over-zealous).

  8. As Capmaster has already said, "The report thread is for reporting violations of the AUP". In fact I will take that one step further and say that "The report thread is for reporting suspected violations of the AUP. Again as Cap said, the mods cannot be everywhere and read every possible post, this forum is just too big, and so we really appreciate every report in this thread as it helps us to do our jobs in keeping the forum tidy.

Wether you agree with the rules on sig length or not, or any other part of the forum AUP for that matter, is irrelevant, or wether you understand the purpose of such rules is equally irrelevant, if someone spots a possible violation of the AUP and reports it, it simply makes our life easier.

If you don't like some of the reports you are seeing, keep out of that thread, there is no good reason I can think of for you to be reading it anyway.

    Good point.
I found an awesome warez site looking there.

It was never about whether I agreed with/believed in the rules. It is about why people feel the need to tattle on every little thing, since literally anything could be a "posssible violation" to some of the narcs. Like the "I find that avatar offensive" reports. I remember a sig pic of Jesus being removed, without any religious reference but the pic itself (and not for size/length restrictions). Some of these tattle-tales may post that they do not like the avatars of peoples' kids because it makes this site look like a bunch of pedophiles. As silly as that sounds, I don't doubt it could happen. Or how about all the sheep-******* talk? That would probably get no response from the mods, but a 4 line sig will get pounced upon.

I see these posts littering the Report thread, and it just seems a little excessive and anal.

On the contrary, how would you be able to clarify some of the "possible violations"? By reading that thread, you get a better sense of what exactly is allowed. I noticed that warez has yet to be Officially and surgically clarified, so seeing what gets locked/warned and what doesn't is very helpful.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to report myself for "arguing with a mod".

Man, I've seen it all now.
