and doesn't take forever to load? I recently owned a Toshiba D-R1 and the thing failed with every brandname DVD-R you can think of.... Sony, TDK, FUJI, Memorex.. It would burn for about 50-75 minutes if at all, and then stop right smack in the middle and say your brandnew disc is dirty. On top, the machine takes forever to load/recognize a disc.

The feature that I like was the manual 32 steps bit rate that we can set. Now, I also want a hard drive. So if anyone could help find me this dream machine ...

    Dream Machine has these features:
    1. Hard Drive, at least 80
    2. 32 step manual bit rate setting
    3. Absolute need to burn to R and Rw... doesn't matter whether it's plus or minus. Don't care about dvd-ram.
    4. Isn't picky with media.
    5. Doesn't take forever to load.

    Any suggestions? Thanx in advance!

Name one APEX unit under $50 that can do this.

Thanks Piano, I think you're right. Though I haven't checked the Sharps, didn't even know they made dvd recorders.
