  1. "what are so different" you might be asking. the sample vcd i downloaded in the VCD section and the vcd's i make.

i just couldnt comprehend how nice the sample vcd was. no macro blocks, no blurry edges. smottttthhhhhhhh ...

i make my vcd's from DV avi, so the source isnt that bad. and i use TMPENGc with tibro's template (best results so far)..

i cant understand why they are so different ? if tmpengc is one of the best encoders, how come it is not as good ? (i still think is does a great job)

    hamambocegi,

    Two things are missing here:
1 - your specs, ie, mbits setttings, etc.
2 - the settings used in the sample(s) you D/L'd

If memory serves me, I D/L'd a few, and one of them had
an bitrate of 2300 for vcd. Oh, I did see blocks, (minor).
ie, There's a clip on the Simpsons. My Apex AD-500 chocked
slitely on it (sound), but that was about it. I didn't care
much for it, as it was VCD (or xVCD'sh)
And, it wasn't so smooth, IMO.

Plus, we don't know how good a quality your DV AVI is. There's
some factors envolved with that as well.

My guess, is you're a newbie. Most newbie's make this mistake!
But that's ok, cause I was there. Saw the same clip, and though
    it was the best! He,he....

I've since moved on to better things. ...SVCD

  3. it is a VCD, not an SVCD ... i am sure if you could encode a VCD as good as the sample, you wouldnt be encoding SVCD's.

why encode svcd's when i cant play them on any dvd player ? why should i have to encode in svcd if vcd's are supposed look like the one in the sample ?? what produced that sample vcd any way - i sure would like to get my hads on it !?!?!? (i am sure it is some $34K quadrauple processer zingababob encoder card simple folk like me cant ever have)
